Feralia.net blog. episode 149: AFI @ The Anthem, Washington, DC. October 9, 2025

Back in my teenage days in the 1900’s, when I was still living in western PA, I went to one of my favorite clubs at the time (Graffiti) to see one of my favorite bands, Sick of it All. One of the opening bands, who I’d only heard a few songs from at the time, was AFI. It was my first time seeing them. Both bands were amazing, making it one of my most fondly remembered shows to this day.

This was the kind of show to be at. Anyone who’s been to a hardcore show knows what I mean. The stage barely reached my hips. The crowd participation was phenomenal. It was insane. After AFI got done tearing their gear down, Sick of it All came on. And there was Davey Havok, right next to me up front. It was so cool seeing him singing along with the rest of us and just having a good time. It was the kind of show that made me love shows, especially those at smaller venues.

Fast forward to 2025. I’d gotten to see AFI a couple more times over the years (including one with another favorite of mine, Death by Stereo!), and they’d grown to be a special band not only for my wife and I, but our daughter as well. So when they came around to DC, we were all excited to go with some family and friends.

This time was at a much larger venue, and because of distance and having a piece of trash phone, I only got a couple okay pictures, posted below. Despite that, the show was a blast and AFI were at their best. Our whole family really enjoyed it. I was also excited to get a signed copy of Silver Bleeds the Black Sun…
