Thank you MAGLabs!

This year’s MAGFest Laboratories was a blast! Among the usual games and great concerts, I enjoyed the Makerspace (where I learned how to solder and my wife got to sew with our daughter), as well as taking may daughter to the Lego room!

Thanks so much to everyone who picked up a copy of Feralia: Revised Edition! I’m so excited to have you all along for the adventure!

Looking forward to MAGLabs 2018 already!

Thank you Southern Maryland Comic Con!

This Saturday was my third at SOMDCC with Alicia’s Anime and my first with my book. My family and I had a great time as usual. My daughter’s cosplay got a lot of love also, which was so nice.

Feralia: Revised Edition got a great response, too! Thank you to everyone who picked up a copy! It was awesome talking to all of you and I hope you enjoy the story!

Thanks also to everyone who stopped to see us at Alicia’s Anime. It’s always so great seeing familiar faces from other cons at one so close to home and having more time to interact with everyone at a small hometown con!

We will see you in 2018!

Feralia.net blog. episode 10: snotgirl and my ever growing reading list

Like many readers I know, my list of books to read is growing too fast. Really, having a ton of stuff to read is great, it’s just that finding the time to read all of it is hard. Take my current stack for example:
20170823_134144
This is just my immediate pile. The books I intend to finish first. And these are just the ones I already have. I have others that I haven’t even picked up yet. You may notice that none of the ones from my earlier list are pictured… that’s because I haven’t got them yet (except for Another, by Yukito Ayatsuji, which I own the digital version of). So if we add those to the books pictured above, we’re up to 14. And this doesn’t include a few others on my list. I also have some others that I need to catch up on by two of my favorite authors, Stephen King and Dean Koontz.

So what to do about all this (besides just reading them all)? Well, today I did the only sensible thing: added another one to the stack!
20170823_134114
I really should finish my other books before adding more, but the cover art for snotgirl caught my eye. A closer look revealed the name Bryan Lee O’Malley, and I was sold. Bryan is the creator of one of my favorite graphic novels, Scott Pilgrim, which also happens to be one of my favorite movies ever. I’ve read mixed reviews on snotgirl on Goodreads, but considering how much I adore his previous work, I’m super excited to read this!

So those make up the largest part of my to read list, but I do have more that deserve mention. I’ll save that for a future blog entry/list.

I know many of you have even larger piles of books to read than me. Let me know which they are!

Feralia.net blog. episode 9: Summer writing update

It’s been a crazy summer! A busy convention schedule combined with work, family time and other important stuff hasn’t left a lot of free time open. Trying to squeeze in time for hobbies such as writing, reading, video games and anime hasn’t been easy. However, I have somehow managed to have the most productive summer of writing that I’ve been able to manage in years. As mentioned in an earlier post, most of my writing time in recent years has been devoted to editing along with some outlining for new stuff. But now that the first story has been re-released and the second is done and close to publication, I’ve been able to continue with new material.

The first week or so of jumping back into writing brand new material was a challenge. For me, the thought process is just so different than that of editing. Thankfully, a vacation helped clear my mind and I’ve been able to find inspiration and get back into a rhythm. It feels amazing to be going on adventures again. Editing and outlining are important of course, but for me there’s nothing like creating that first draft. It really is a healthy exercise to imagine and create. If you’ve never tried it, give it a shot! Even if it’s just for you, it feels great to escape the anxieties of real life just for a bit and create something, whether it’s writing, poetry, art, music or crafts.

So as far as the material I have been working on, I can’t say what that is just yet. However I will have some exciting news along those lines later this week, so check back soon!
