Feralia Book II title announcement this Friday!

This Friday at noon (US eastern standard time) we’ll finally be officially announcing the title for the second Feralia story! Those of you who have picked up a copy of Feralia: Revised Edition already know the title because of the bonus excerpts added from Book II, but this will make it official for everyone. And there are a couple exciting details we’ll announce too, but we’ll save that for Friday.

See you Friday at noon!

Feralia.net blog. episode 9: Summer writing update

It’s been a crazy summer! A busy convention schedule combined with work, family time and other important stuff hasn’t left a lot of free time open. Trying to squeeze in time for hobbies such as writing, reading, video games and anime hasn’t been easy. However, I have somehow managed to have the most productive summer of writing that I’ve been able to manage in years. As mentioned in an earlier post, most of my writing time in recent years has been devoted to editing along with some outlining for new stuff. But now that the first story has been re-released and the second is done and close to publication, I’ve been able to continue with new material.

The first week or so of jumping back into writing brand new material was a challenge. For me, the thought process is just so different than that of editing. Thankfully, a vacation helped clear my mind and I’ve been able to find inspiration and get back into a rhythm. It feels amazing to be going on adventures again. Editing and outlining are important of course, but for me there’s nothing like creating that first draft. It really is a healthy exercise to imagine and create. If you’ve never tried it, give it a shot! Even if it’s just for you, it feels great to escape the anxieties of real life just for a bit and create something, whether it’s writing, poetry, art, music or crafts.

So as far as the material I have been working on, I can’t say what that is just yet. However I will have some exciting news along those lines later this week, so check back soon!

Thanks Dover!

Thanks so much to everyone who stopped by at Dover Comic Con on Saturday! I hope readers new to Feralia enjoy reading! This was our 4th year (we’ve been there since the first year, when all of us were squished into the library together to the crazy event it has grown into). Despite the heat, we had a great time as usual and are already looking forward to next year!

Otakon 2017!

Otakon 2017 Banner
I normally do a pre-con post, but due to internet issues I was sadly unable to do one for Otakon this time. This was my 13th Otakon, and the move from Baltimore to Washington DC made it interesting, as expected.

Most importantly, I wanted to thank everyone who stopped by to see us at Alicia’s Anime. I hope everyone who picked up a copy of Feralia: Revised Edition enjoys it. And I especially want to thank the awesome reader who had picked up the book at a previous con and tracked us down to let me know she enjoyed it! This was really special and was one of the things that made it a great weekend despite some craziness. Also, as usual, I got to see and talk with a TON of my con friends, which is always amazing!

If I have time I’d like to do a more detailed blog devoted to Otakon, but with Dover Comic Con and Southern Maryland Comic Con coming up quickly I’m not sure when I’ll be able to.

But anyway, thanks so much again to all of the attendees, staff and friends this weekend! I’ll see you there in 2018!

Feralia.net blog. episode 8: Take Care of Yourself

If you’re like me, writing is a hobby, a passion… one that has to take a second seat to work. Easy work weeks for me are 54 hours. Convention weeks are many more, and those are more often than not. And I’m not alone. I’m sure many of you guys work just as much if not more. This can make writing, or creating of any kind, really hard! Sometimes it’s hard to keep a clear mind. In my case it’s been extra challenging because the majority of the time I’ve spent on writing over the past years has been editing. Lately I’ve been excited to be writing brand new material again! But jumping back into new stuff has required a different focus. With the craziness of real life sometimes it’s a real challenge to focus and stay inspired creatively.

Thankfully this weekend was a huge help. Amazingly, in fact. This was my view:
Beach View
It’s amazing what even just a long weekend will do for you! It was just me and my family. And none of the usual craziness. Most importantly it was wonderful time spent with them. But also, I immediately I felt refreshed, and inspired again.

Life and work is crazy for all of us, but it’s super important to get away from it once in a while. Mentally, emotionally and physically it’s really beneficial. And an added bonus is having your mind cleared for creative stuff. So be sure to take care of yourself and get away from every day life! It’s good for your family and for you!

Ps. Yes, the title of this blog was borrowed from one of my favorite anime titles. If you know which one, comment and let me know because you are awesome.

More Nova Con

Post-Nova Con has been super busy with the usual convention preparation and a quick vacation, but I wanted to make sure to mention that the con had so many great artists and writers, including Christopher Swartzlander. Got to pick up his book, Tripping Over Reality: The Death and Origin of a Hero.

It’s a super hero novel and features really cool art by not only Christopher, but a bunch of other artists as well.

Christopher was an awesome next-booth-neighbor all weekend, and, the funny thing is, one of the artists responsible for the book’s awesome cover art, Jason Metcalf, was our neighbor on the other side of our booth! His booth was full of his amazing art.

These guys were just two of the talented people there, and I hope to exhibit along side them again!
